You may have heard of the brand Botox® - this is the shortened form of ‘botulinum toxin’. This is a toxin produced by bacteria commonly found in soil. But don’t worry – the product we use is prescription-only and manufactured in a laboratory under very stringent conditions. Also, the doses we use are a fraction of the dose required to show any true ‘toxicity’ and thus very safe.
Botox® acts by temporarily blocking chemical nerve signals that tell the muscle to contract, thereby reducing (or in some cases, eliminating) movement. This works very well to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Deeper lines will also benefit to a certain extent, but these often need to be ‘lifted’ from beneath with the use of dermal filler.
Fillers
What is dermal filler?
This term encompasses a number of products that can be permanent, semi-permanent or temporary. The type of filler we use at Aestheticology is temporary filler with the appearance of a clear gel and is composed of synthetic Hyaluronic Acid (HA). This is actually a naturally occurring substance found in the skin, giving it structure and suppleness through hydration.
As we age, there is reduced HA in the skin (amongst other substances) with significant loss of volume due to reduced fat and bony changes. This leads to a tired appearance with increased facial ‘hollows’ and sagging. We aim to help improve the appearance of these changes by using filler to add volume and ‘fill’ deeper lines. It can also be used to help shape areas (such as lips and cheeks) and improve the appearance of scars.
Profhilo®
What is Profhilo® ?
This product contains a stabilised form of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), similar to standard dermal fillers. But the key difference is that no synthetic chemical (called BDDE for short) is used to ‘cross-link’ the various chains of HA together. They are linked by hydrogen bonds instead. This allows the higher concentration of HA to spread evenly whilst still remaining cohesive, compared to traditional fillers that aim to give structure through volume. This combination works well to restore skin quality as the shorter chains hydrate and stimulate skin, whilst the longer chains act as a dermal scaffold helping to remodel ageing, sagging skin.
Profhilo® is recommended for those aged 40+, but will work well in younger clients where the skin is showing early signs of ageing (fine lines, sagging etc). The standard treatment protocol involves 2 treatments 4 weeks apart. There is no downtime and the injections are virtually painless.
The Perfect Peel ™
What is the Perfect Peel ™ ?
This is a ‘medical-grade’ peel that will transform your skin into looking younger, healthier and clearer in just one week. It blends glutathione, kojic acid, TCA, retinoic acid, salicylic acid, phenol, and a blend of minerals and vitamins, including vitamin C.
About the ingredients: Glutathione and Vitamin C are potent anti-oxidants. Kojic acid is a powerful lightening agent and proven to increase collagen and elastin production, resulting in skin that is brighter and tighter. TCA, phenol and retinoic acid reduce wrinkles and correct pigment problems, while salicylic acid exfoliates the skin and reduces inflammation. This unique combination really helps with acne and irregular pigmentation. Another great feature is that The Perfect Peel™ can be used on all skin types (from Celtic to Afro-Caribbean) and requires no pre-peel skin preparation so the whole process can be completed in 15 minutes.
It is important to know that the skin will peel (this may seem obvious!) usually from day 3 after the peel for approximately 3 days. You will be given a homecare pack to help manage this.
